Semen analysis ($120.00) A Semen Analysis provides information on the quality and quantity of spermatozoa, as well as the secretory function of the accessory genital glands. Specifically, documentation is provided on:
The seminal fluid: including volume, viscosity, agglutination and, if present, the percent of leukocytic cells.
Sperm number: both concentration and total number.
Sperm motility: including percent motile, average speed of sperm swimming in a forward direction, and percent of sperm exhibiting linear motility.
Sperm morphology: including the percent distribution of both normal and abnormal forms.
Sperm survival test: evaluates the ability of sperm to survive extended periods of time in culture. Poor survival is associated with a decreased probability of oocyte fertilization in vitro, and so is a critical aspect of the analysis of the sperm of men considering such assisted reproductive technologies as IUI, GIFT and IVF.
Antisperm antibody test ($110.00) An Antisperm Antibody Test is an assessment, both qualitatively and quantitatively, of the presence of antibodies in the circulation and in seminal plasma to the surface membranes of spermatozoa. Because antisperm antibodies impair fertility differently according to not only the titer but the type of antibody, quantification of two major immunoglobulin isotypes is determined, IgG and IgA. The test in our laboratory utilizes the immunobead technique, at present the most accurate among a variety of available direct and indirect assays.
Acrosome reaction ($110.00) An Acrosome Reaction test is a triple-stain technique intended to verify the occurrence of a sequence of structural changes that must take place in the membrane at the acrosomal cap of the sperm head in order for fertilization to proceed.
