Directed Donor
Steps to Becoming a Directed Sperm Donor
1.  The Directed Donor makes an appointment to begin the process. He will read and sign consent forms and sign off his specimens to the recipient. He will then collect a specimen and schedule his next appointment.

2.
At the time of his initial specimen collection, the donor is given his first physical. The physical entails a complete body exam, a blood draw and urine sample. This physical is performed by our Medical Director and is referred to as a PE-I. We screen for the following in the first exam:

Complete semen analysis
Blood Type and RH                              HTLV-I and HTLV-II
ALT                                                       Hepatitis B core antibody
Syphilis                                                 Hepatitis B surface antigen
Nisseria gonorrhea                              Hepatitis C antibody
Chlamydia tracomatis                         HCV (NAT)
HIV-1 and HIV-2                                HIV-1 (NAT)
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) IgG and IgM

3.
It is recommended that the directed donor collects several specimens (abstaining at least 3 days between collections). We would recommend collecting at least three samples.

4.
After the results of the first exam, and assuming the results are all negative, the directed donor must then return to our office no sooner than 180 days from his last specimen collection date to have a repeat physical. This physical is performed by our Medical Director and is referred to as a PE-II. The following is screened for at his second physical:

HTLV-I and HTLV-II                     Hepatitis B core antibody
Syphilis                                               Hepatitis B surface antigen
Nisseria gonorrhea                        Hepatitis C antibody
Chlamydia tracomatis                  HCV (NAT)
HIV-1 and HIV-2                            HIV-1 (NAT)
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) IgG and IgM

5.
Once we receive all the results back, and assuming the results are all negative, the recipient and/or her physician may order the specimens for use.
